Yerevan To Host Giya Kancheli Days Celebration

YEREVAN TO HOST GIYA KANCHELI DAYS CELEBRATION

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ On May 6-9 Yerevan will host Giya Kancheli
Days celebration within the framework of festival entitled "Vilnus
-European Culture capital" and organized by "XXI century Perspectives"
International Festival.

Famous violinist, Kremerata Baltica Orchestra conductor Gidon Kremer
will visit Yerevan to participate in celebration.

Opening of Giya Kancheli Days celebration was held on May 6 in Aram
Khatchaturyan Philharmonic Hall.

Serenade Chamber Orchestra (conductor Eduard Topchyan), cellist Giyede
Dirvanauskayte and violist Maxim Rizanov performed Giya Kancheli’s
"Silence Prayer" and "Liturgy" symphonic works.

On May 8, Hover Chamber Choir, Gidon Kremer and Andres Mustonen will
feature "Sio", "Ex Contranio" and "Broken chant" works.

"XXI century Perspectives" classical music festival marked its 10th
birthday this year.

"Vilnius -European Culture capital" event was held on the occasion
in Yerevan on February 12-14.

The audience was offered a possibility to hear various musical
compositions performed by renowned musicians.

Giya Kancheli has written music for dozens of films, many of them
well-known in the Russian-speaking world but virtually unknown outside
it, such as Georgi Daneliya’s Mimino and Kin-dza-dza!.
