Member of the "Heritage" faction of the National Assembly Stepan
Safaryan considers that the situation created in the region after the
August events has not been properly analyzed and assessed by Armenia,
while Azerbaijan has properly assessed the situation and has started
the "trade." At the same time, according to Stepan Safaryan, the
ongoing processes include certain risks, since the Armenian diplomacy
has made a number of mistakes; as a result of which it has become
more difficult to reinforce the strategic positions in the region
and solve our problems.
According to Stepan Safaryan, the current developments in
the Armenian-Turkish relations proceed on the basis of certain
preconditions despite the statements on the international level that
the negotiations take place without any preconditions and have nothing
to do with the settlement of the Karabakh issue. "I have to continue
insisting that this link exists and in reality the normalization of
the Armenian-Turkish relations solves a number of problems, including
the weakening of Russian positions, winning Azerbaijan’s favor,
and others. I think it’s impossible not understand and not to see
that the Armenian-Turkish relations have to do with Turkish-American,
Turkish-Russian, Turkish-Azerbaijani, Russian-Azerbaijani relations=2
0 rather than the Armenian-Turkish relations, and this constitutes
a great danger.
In any case, the opposition Deputy considers that there are
preconditions in the Armenian-Turkish relations. According to him,
Turkey has cunningly consolidated some of them in the "comprehensive
framework." Besides, with oral statements Turkey has linked the
normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations to the settlement of
the Karabakh issue.
Therefore, as an expert, Stepan Safaryan considers that it is necessary
to refrain from signing any document in such an atmosphere.
