On 7 May the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with
his Azerbaijani counterpart, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev
in Prague. The Armenian party evaluates the meeting between the
Presidents positive.

`The Armenian party has assessed the Prague meeting useful which gave
the parties opportunity to make the approaches on the basic principles
of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict definite, as well as to pull the
positions closer in some points,’ the President’s Cabinet reports.

Note that by basic principles of the conflict self determination right
of nations, territorial integrity and force non-implementation is
understood. The current three principles have been adopted in the OSCE
ministerial summit in Helsinki.

Being a historic Armenian land, Nagorno Karabakh has become a stage
for war activities by the Azerbaijani party after the collapse of the
Russian Empire and formation of new states in Caucasus in 1918-1920.

1988 has become turning in the history of Nagorno Karabakh. People of
Artsakh, not sustaining anymore the discriminative strategy of
Azerbaijan, which put under threat the physical and spiritual security
of the Armenians of NK, raised its voice to protect its rights and
freedom.

The next stage of the developments has been the unleashed war by the
Azeri party which caused ten thousands of deaths and hundred thousands
of refugees to leave their homeland.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
