Trade Turnover Between Armenia And Kazakhstan Over $21.4mln In 2008

TRADE TURNOVER BETWEEN ARMENIA AND KAZAKHSTAN OVER $21.4MLN IN 2008

YEREVAN, May 13. /ARKA/. Trade turnover between Armenia and Kazakhstan
totaled $21.4mln in 2008, Armenian co-chair of the intergovernmental
commission on Armenia-Kazakhstan trade and economic cooperation Samvel
Avetisyan said.

Unfortunately, it is a reduction of 2.8% as compared with $21.8mln
in 2007, he said at the third meeting of the commission in Yerevan
Tuesday.

Armenian exports amounted to $7.3mln by the end of 2007 and only
$2.9mln in 2008, Avetisyan said.

Kazakhstani imports to Armenia reduced as well – from $39.7mln in
2007 to $18.5mln in 2008. The list of trade turnover between the
countries includes 108 product items.

Crops rank first in the list of Kazakhstani imports to Armenia:
crops imports to Armenia totaled $9.6mln in 2007 and $10.7mln in 2008.

Ethyl alcohol is the first among Armenian goods exported to Kazakhstan:
ethyl alcohol exports amounted to $1.8mln in 2007 and $800,000 in
2008. The second is Armenian jewelry – exports totaled $1.4 mln in
2007 and $500,000 in 2008, Avetisyan said.

He also pointed out the high demand for Armenian synthetic rubber –
exports of this product to Kazakhstan were $1mln in 2007-2008.

According to Avetisyan, being an economically strong country with
high potential Kazakhstan is of particular interest to Armenia.

Apart from the current exports, Armenian vegetables and fruits can=2
0also be exported especially to northern parts of Kazakhstan, the
co-chair said.

As the Kazakhstani side says they need Armenian goods, Avetisyan said
adding that Armenia, in its turn, needs Kazakhstani high-quality grain,
fertilizers, machines, and metallic structures.
