On May 14 the Foreign Minister of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, received
UK Special Representative for the South Caucasus Brian Fall.
During the meeting the parties discussed the ways of expanding
cooperation between Armenia and Great Britain and the opportunities
of intensifying the collaboration between the foreign agencies of
the two countries.
Upon the initiative of the British side, the parties agreed to conduct
periodic consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and
the United Kingdom.
The interlocutors turned to the process of normalization of the
Armenian-Turkish relations. In this context Mr. Fall welcomed the
recent progress in that direction and expressed hope that the parties
would soon start implementing the agreements reached.
Turning to Turkish Prime Minister’s statements in Baku, Minister
Nalbandian noted that Turkey’s attempts to interfere with the
settlements of the Artsakh issue could harm the process. According
to the Armenian Foreign Minister, the negotiations on the Karabakh
conflict settlement proceed with the mediation of the Minsk Group
Co-Chairs based on the Madrid Proposals, and the parties are trying
to bring their positions closer. He added that if Turkey wishes to
contribute to the peaceful resolution of the issue, it should not
interfere in the process.
0A Edward Nalbandian and Brian Fall exchanged views on the settlement
of the Artsakh issue, emphasizing the importance of the peaceful
resolution of the issue on the basis of principles and norms of
international law.
