POLITICAL DEMARCHES OF ARMENIAN PRESIDENT COME VERY EXPENSIVE FOR ARMENIA: LEVON TER-PETROSYAN

ArmInfo. The political demarches of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan,
particularly, the one he made in Prague on May 7, come very expensive
for Armenia, the first president of the country, the leader of the
Armenian opposition Levon Ter-Petrosyan said during a rally today.

‘During his May 7 negotiations with the President of Azerbaijan
Sargsyan toughened his position on the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. And
the statement made by French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner on
the results of the Sargsyan-Aliev Prague talks proves my words,’
Ter-Petrosyan said.

The key reason for such behavior is that after the so-called
Armenian-Turkish talks Sargsyan is feeling himself deceived. The talks
have given no desirable results: the Armenian-Turkish border has not
been opened even though Armenia has almost renounced its demand for
recongnition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey.

‘Consequently, stiffening of Sargsyan’s policy can’t help causing
the response of international community interested in the Karabakh
conflict settlement. Such steps have already been taken, particularly,
the issue of Armenia again found itself on the agenda of PACE, the USA
decreased the amount of assistance for Armenia by 40%, and Turkish
Prime Minister Erdogan is going to exert all type of effort to make
the UN Security Council20acknowledge Armenia an occupant country’,-
he said.

‘Unfortunately, the measures taken with respect to Armenia due
to Serzh Sargsyan’s fault will have heavy consequences first and
foremost for Armenian people, and the reason is the inconsistency of
the incumbent president. Armenia has never been in such a difficult
situation before’,- Ter-Petrosyan concluded.
