YEREVAN, MAY 19, NOYAN TAPAN. The Armenian authorities should use
Yerevan Council of Elders elections for recording progress in the
sphere of democracy. Hovhannes Hovhannisian, a member of the Armenian
National Congress, the Chairman of the Liberal Party of Armenia,
expressed such an opinion at the May 19 press conference meanwhile
mentioning that the authorities have been doing the opposite so far.
In his words, the authorities try not to politicize the elections and
not to attach much importance to them. However, in H. Hovhannisian’s
conviction, the election to be held on May 31 is a very important
political event.
According to him, if this time also the authorities hold elections like
the 2008 presidential elections, they will greatly damage Armenia’s
political rating.
According to H. Hovhannisian’s prediction, if fair elections are held
the Armenian National Congress will win and will make a majority in
Yerevan Council of Elders. According to him, the second will be BH
and the third RPA.
