HUNGARY BACKS ARMENIA ON ROAD TO EU INTEGRATION
Budapest, May 22 (MTI) – Hungary supports Armenian efforts to become
integrated into the western structures, Matyas Eorsi, head of
Parliament’s European affairs committee, told MTI in a phone interview
on Friday.
Armenia, just as neighbouring Georgia and Azerbaijan, would like to
get closer to the European structures and even to become member of the
European Union in foreseeable time, he said.
Although the latter cannot be promised today, Hungary has a good deal
of experience in meeting the EU criteria and is prepared to transfer
them to Armenia, he said.
Asked about the impact of the Karabakh conflict on Armenia’s inclusion
in the energy supply routes crossing the Caucasian region, Eorsi said
that, from the financial point of view, Armenia is the biggest loser
of the conflict because it prevents it from being reckoned with as a
transit country.
Heading a parliamentary delegation, Eorsi is on the last leg of a
three-nation tour that already took him to Azerbaijan and Georgia.
