"In my opinion, beginning from 1996, the opposition has always won in
the elections. Just, we are not able to secure it legally", stated
the Head of the Heritage parliamentary faction Armen Martirosyan,
dwelling on the Yerevan Mayor election, scheduled on May 31. On May
27, he stated that the Yerevan Mayor Election will bring about changes
of situation in Armenia.
Proceeding from this, the reporters asked if he means that the
opposition will surely win. Armen Martirosyan answered that the
opposition has always won since 1996. "There will be changes in any
case. "If the ruling coalition has enough political will to hold free,
fair and transparent elections and the opposition wins in its result,
there will surely be changes. In the opposite case, if the election
is held in the traditional way, Serge Sargsyan will have to make real
reforms in a short time. I think that with imitative reforms it will
not be possible to go on for long".
