The OSCE MG co-chairs do not expect achievement of mutual consent
between Armenia and Azerbaijan on all basic principles from the
Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting, but they hope that this process will take
place in phases".

The statement was made by US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Matthew
Bryza on 28 May in an interview to Liberty radio.

"The Presidents have attained a significant progress in Prague and I
expect the same from the meeting in St. Petersburg. I hope that in the
coming months the world will witness a breakthrough", said M. Bryza.

M. Bryza said that if the Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting takes place,
the presidents will try make an agreement on some basic principles
integral.

"Anyway, I hope they will find a common language both on the unsettled
principles and the solution to some issues. Certainly, we do not
expect to attain agreement on all main principles, but we hope that
this process will take place step by step", said M. Bryza.

"The United States supports the view that the processes of settlement
of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Armenian-Turkish relations are
parallel though isolated issues. These processes proceed by different
channels, but achieving success in one process will contribute to
progress in another".

He said he can not answer the question about why the authorities of
Armenia and Turkey do not make the contents of the Armenian-Turkish
"road map" public: "This issue can be elaborated by the Armenian and
Turkish sides".

M. Bryza added that it is incorrect to condemn Serzh Sargsyan for
continuing negotiations with the Turkish side after statements by
Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan that the opening of the Armenian-Turkish
border depends on the solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict:
"Neither Armenia, nor Turkey have yet lost or gained anything unless
the final agreement is signed".

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
