FIRST RESULTS OF TV MONITORING

The Yerevan Press Club, which monitored the TV broadcasting of the
7 TV channels of Armenia with the assistance of the Open Society
Institute, on June 1 presented the results of its monitoring. H 1,
H 2, Shant, Armnews, Yerkir Media, ALM and Kentron TV channels
underwent monitoring.

The Head of the Press Club of Yerevan, Boris Navasardyan, noted that
unlike the presidential election, the material and the technologies,
which was taken up by the participants, was not to prove that their
competitors are bad, but they were trying to prove that they are
good. As Navasardyan stated, this was a positive and a kind electoral
campaign.

Boris Navasardyan stated that our TV channels, when they want,
they are able to be very neutral, they want it or they are let be
neutral. According to the results of the TV monitoring, the H 1 made
the main balanced broadcasting of the electoral campaign. From the
point of view of the time allocated to all the parties/alliances,
H 1 was followed by the H 2, then Armnews, Shant, Kentron, Yerkir
Media and ALM. Form the point of view of the balance of the time
allocated to the parties/alliances, H 1 was followed by Shant, H 2,
Armnews, ALM, Kentron and Yerkir Media.

The Head of the Yerevan Media Club stated that there is a great
difference of the broadcasting the activities of the participants
and the electoral campaign, which is not a positive thing. And,
from this point of view, the parties have been separated in 4 groups.

According to him, the People’s Party, the head of which is Tigran
Karapetyan, has been much broadcasted and forms the first group. The
fact that the People’s Party leads is determined by the ALM TV channel,
which belongs to Tigran Karapetyan. The coalition parties Republican,
BHK, OYP and the ARF Dashnaktsutyun form the second group; in addition,
the ARF Dashnaktsutyun was in the centre of the attention thanks to
the Yerkir Media TV. The HAK is in the third group, which has been
less broadcasted that the members of the other groups, because it did
not have any TV channels which would have a special liking towards
the party. In case, as Boris Navasardyan stated, Shant, Armnews, H
2 had a special liking towards the Republican Party and the Kentron
TV channels likes the BHK very much, and the ARF Dashnaktsutyun was
the favorite of the Yerkir Media TV.

Boris Navasardyan stated that within the next days, they are going
to sum up the final results of the TV monitoring and they are going
to present them to the public.
