YEREVAN, JUNE 9, ARMENPRESS: Preparations for the 2011 population
census are in process. Member of state commission for preparation
and conduction of the population census of the Armenian National
Statistical State Council Gagik Gevorgyan told Armenpress that on
these days the Armenian Finance Ministry and the State Statistical
service hold joint discussions to find out the sum of money to be
released from the state budget for conduction of these works.
According to him, conduction of the population census is an
expensive process therefore like the previous time this time also
the participation of international donor organizations is also
intended. The population census held in the republic in 2001 was for
80% financed by international institutions. According to the approved
preliminary budget 6.5 million USD will be needed for conduction of
this population census.
G. Gevorgyan said that a plan of preparation works has already been
created and from 14-23 April 2010 an experimental population census
will be held. The necessary inquiry bulletin will in the nearest
future be formed and put into discussion.
"The experience shows that there is a need for a new population census
in our state. The data base created as a result of the 2001 population
census is already outdated," he said.
According to G. Gevorgyan, besides fixing the exact number of people
the population census will also give an opportunity to implement
serious works; for instance to find out in what province there is
a need for implementation of apartment building and solution of the
issue of job places.
The population census will be held 12-21 October 2011. Prior to
passing to concrete actions the state commission for the preparation
and conduction of the population census must solve a number of tasks
it faces; implement mapping of towns and big villages, regulate the
address economy, form lists of constructions, work out a population
census project, discuss it and approve.
12 224 interrogators, 2,425 coordinators, 364 heads of population
census constituencies and assistants and 61 territorial coordinators
will take part in the works.
