"It’s obvious that the Armenian-Turkish relations reached a
deadlock. At the same time those relations are in the agenda of the
foreign officials. The evidence to it is U.S. Assistant Secretary
Philip Gordon’s visit to Armenia and touch upon Armenian-Turkish
relations," Ruben Melkonyan, expert of "Noravank" foundation told
the reporters.

According to the expert some reduction of active communication
will be felt but the significance of the question will be kept. "We
will be always claiming that we are ready to establish ties without
preconditions and Turkey will be forced to make some efforts under
the pressure of the international society," the expert said.

Regarding the time and the period of setting the Armenian-Turkish
ties, Melkonyan says autumn does not seem realistic. And the evidence
to this, according to the expert, is the mood in Turkey, especially
in Kesaria where the football match should take place. Recently 250
thousand Turkish expressed themselves against the opening of the
Armenian-Turkish border.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
