NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SPEAKER HIGHLY ASSESSES ARMENIAN PRESIDENT’S HUMANITARIAN STEP ON DECLARING AMNESTY

YEREVAN, JUNE 16, ARMENPRESS: Armenian National Assembly Speaker
Hovik Abrahamyan received today the co-rapporteurs of the monitoring
commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE)
John Prescott and George Colombie.
NA public relations department told Armenpress that Mr. Abrahamyan
informed the co-rapporteurs that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan
applied to the National Assembly and offered to declare amnesty. The
speaker highly assessed Armenian president’s humanitarian step and
told the co-rapporteurs that he signed a decision, according to which
on the initiative of the Armenian president June 19, an extraordinary
session will be summoned. Mr. Abrahamyan also told the co-rapporteurs
that the initiative of the Armenian president has already been sent
to the permanent commission of state-legal issues of the National
Assembly and to the Armenian Government as well; they will present
their conclusion during the upcoming day.
During the meeting the interlocutors discussed a number of issues on
Armenian inter-political situation and the coming session of PACE.
