ArmInfo. The problem of technical recession exists in Armenia, as
high fall of economy over 5 months, 2009, has been stipulated for
high growth over the similar period, 2008, Prime Minister of Armenia
Tigran Sarkisyan said at the government session on Thursday.

According to him, recession in economy is going on, and the first 9
months will be the most difficult for the country, and the economic
indices will start improving at late, 2009. ‘The problem number one
for us is to support the State Revenues Committee of Armenia. We
should realize that tax collection is a common problem. Our heads
of agencies treat the fact of non-payment of taxes by departmental
agencies very calmly’, T. Sarkisyan said.

At today’s session, the government made a protocol decision for all the
heads of agencies to submit proposals to the prime minister, within
three days, on implementation of additional measures to increase the
level of tax collection. According to T. Sarkisyan, a great potential
in this aspect is available in the Ministry of Health Protection, as
a serious problem of accounting exists in the medical establishments.

There is also a great potential in the agriculture, where
big processing enterprises function, as well as in the
Ministry of Transport and Communication and in the sphere of
construction. T. Sarksiyan also said the major recession in Armenia’s
economy has been conditioned by worsening of indices in construction,
that negatively affects all the economy sectors.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
