BULK OF RUSSIAN INVESTMENTS IN ARMENIA OVER US $1.8BLN SINCE 1991

TSAKHKADZOR, June 22. /ARKA/. The bulk of Russian investments
in Armenia has exceeded US $1.8bln since 1991, Alexey Ostrovsky,
Chairman of the Committee for CIS Affairs, RF State Duma, stated at
the international conference "Armenia at the communication crossroads"
held in Tsakhkadzor, Armenia.
He pointed out that Russia is actually the largest foreign investor
in Armenia, which is working in such sectors as transport, energy,
banking system, mining industry and construction.
Ostrovsky said that Russian companies also share in or are sole owners
of a number of enterprises working in the Armenian fuel-energy complex,
namely, ArmRosgazprom, Hrazdan heat and power plant, Sevan-Hrazdan
coordinated hydroelectric system, Armenian nuclear-power plant. He
stressed that Russian companies ensure profitable operation of the
enterprises as well as uninterrupted gas supply.
Last year the Russian Railroad OJSC was granted concession of the
Armenian Railway.
"About 70 constituent regions of the Russian Federation are involved
in joint economic projects with Armenia," Ostrovsky said. He also
pointed out most successful Russian-Armenian military cooperation in
creating security mechanisms in the South Caucasus.
