RA DIASPORA MINISTRY INTENSIFIES TIES WITH ARMENIAN COMMUNITY OF GEORGIA

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Armenia’s Diaspora ministry actively cooperates with
the Armenian community of Georgia, Diaspora minister Hranush Hakobyan
told a news conference in Yerevan today. "Armenian community of
Georgia can be divided into two parts: residing in Samtskhe Javakheti
and in the rest of the country. While the Armenian community of
Samtskhe-Javakheti does not face the danger of assimilation, the
same cannot be stated about Armenians residing in other regions,"
minister said.
According to her, the Dispora ministry has a special department on
cooperation with Armenians of the Samtskhe Javakheti region. "We
project to carry out preparatory courses in Armenian Church history
for 90 teachers from Samtskhe Javakheti. I have recently visited
the region, ministry workers also often meet representatives of the
Armenian community of Georgia," she said.
According to Hranush Hakobyan, ministry once suggested to open branches
of Armenian universities in Tbilisi and other Georgian cities. The
Diaspora minister called on Armenians of Georgia to learn Georgian
language.
