ARMENIA TO RECORD 3% INFLATION BY LATE-2009 – IMF

YEREVAN, June 24. /ARKA/. Armenia will record an average inflation rate
of 3% in 2009 against 2008, Nienke Oomes, the Resident Representative
of the International Monetary Fund in Armenia told reporters on
Wednesday.
Oomes said they are glad that according to forecasts inflation in
Armenia is still low and according to forecasts for this December
against December 2008 it will not exceed 3.5%.
She noted currently the forecast of IMF is very close to the actual
inflation rate of 3.4% which is lower than expected. According to
her IMF expected a sharp inflation rise after dram devaluation this
March which did not happen.
According to statistics, Armenia recorded 2.5% inflation this
January-May against corresponding period of 2008. At the same time
Armenia recorded 5.5% rise in consumer prices this January-May against
December 2008.
An inflation rate of 4% (±1.5%) has been budgeted in Armenia this
year.
