Yerevan, 23 June: David Shahnazaryan of the Armenian National Congress
(ANC) said in Yerevan today that the opposition will not carry out
dialogue with the authorities "as long as a single political prisoner
remains in prison".

Speaking at a news conference in Yerevan, he noted that "according
to our calculations, about 20 political prisoners remain in jails who
were not covered by the amnesty," Mediamax reports. In the meantime,
Shahnazaryan said that the amnesty was a "great success" for the
opposition.

Shahnazaryan said that the ANC intends to strive for the release of
the remaining "political prisoners" with both political and legal
methods, in particular, the opposition will stage a rally in Yerevan
in early July.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
