Delays in opening the Turkish-Armenian border are increasing
the importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Akhalkalaki-Kars railway
project. However the project continues to be implemented.
Currently the Georgian Government has started purchasing plots of land
from private individuals. This land is needed for constructing the
railway on as well as building the appropriate infrastructure. This
process is being administered by the Association for the Protection
of Landowners Rights.
In the Tetritskaro region three hectares of land need to be
purchased. Significant parcels of land must also be found in
Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda. Around 100 hectares of land must be
purchased in these three regions together.
