Billionaire Ron Burkle says he’s not among Michael Jackson’s
creditors. A friend of the supermarket titan says he was too shrewd to
loan the cash-strapped singer money but did give Jacko financial
advice, paid for an accountant to review his balance sheet, and let
him stay at his house.
Farrah Fawcett may have lived a few more months thanks to billionaire
Kirk Kerkorian. A rep for the 92-year-old financier confirms to us
that he quietly paid for the late actress’ cancer treatment in
Germany. A source vouches there was nothing romantic between Kerkorian
and Fawcett, `he just saw a friend in pain and wanted to help.’
Jack Nicholson was at `West Side Story’ last night and the Yankees
game Thursday night, completing his run around the bases of New York
before he resumes filming James Brooks’ new flick with Paul Rudd, Owen
Wilson and Reese Witherspoon Monday in Philly. He tried on hats at
Barney’s, dined with an old pal at David Burke’s townhouse seafood
boite Fishtail’s, and met up with beautiful daughter Lorraine who came
down from Brown University. Wednesday night, he surprised `God of
Carnage’ cast members Marcia Gay Hardin, Hope Davis, Jeff Daniels and
James Gandolfini when he popped backstage to congratulate them after
seeing the show. Then it was on to Elaine’s with Gandolfini and his
wife Deborah and Bobby Zarem, where the two acting greats `talked
nonstop for an hour, laughing the whole time..’ We wish we were a fly
on the wall, but Elaine Kaufman doesn’t allow flies.
Rob Thomas is only in his 30s, but mortality is a big theme of some of
the songs on his new solo album, `Cradlesong,’ out this week. `I write
more about death now,’ the songwriter (and former Matchbox 20
frontman) told us. The hunk’s obsessive fans don’t help. `There’s one
girl we see all the time on tour and she tells everyone that she knows
we’re goi
ys we are meant for each other. I see her at every show, and my wife
knows her and talks to her sometimes. She’s more obsessed with my
wife, which is scarier because I’m waiting for her to just pull out a
knife or something.’
Clintonistas are quietly being told to save the date. Chelsea
Clinton’s Martha’s Vineyard wedding to Goldman Sachs banker Marc
Mezvinsky at Vernon Jordan’s estate will take place the last week of
August, we hear… Super-director Steven Spielberg’s vision has to be
just right, so he took his time trying on glasses at OPTYX by Gruen in
East Hampton, finally ordering a pair. Nearby, Kelsey Grammer had Tex

Cinda Firestone Fox did not lead the life expected of her as a
debutante. After graduating from Miss Porter’s School and Sarah
Lawrence, the Firestone tire heiress made the radical documentary
"Attica," which helped changed prison conditions in the U.S. Before
the showing last night at BAM, Cinda, now married to Broadway producer
Manny Fox, told us she’s completed a memoir, and she and composer Nile
Rodgers will mount a musical loosely based on the life of a leftie
rich girl. "I first met Nile when he was 15, panhandling on the
street, and he stayed on my couch till he got on his feet. We’ve been
friends ever since."
