RA MINISTER OF DIASPORA MEETS REPRESENTATIVES OF ARMENIAN ORGANIZATIONS IN BOSTON

BOSTON, JULY 7, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. RA Minister of Diaspora
Hranush Hakobian left for the U.S. to participate in the proceedings
of the Armenian Medical World Congress in New York between July 1
to 4. Before, she visited Boston and had a number of meetings with
representatives of the local Armenian community, communal institutions.
Accompanied by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the
RA to the U.S. Tatul Hakobian, the RA Minister of Diaspora first
visited the Baikar (Struggle) institution of the Tekeyan Cultural
Union, held a press conference with participation of editors of the
Eastern American Armenian English-language Armenian Mirror Spectator,
Armenian Weekly newspapers, Hayrenik (Homeland) weekly and Boston
Independent Radio Station. Mrs. Hakobian presented in detail the
necessity of creation of the RA Ministry of Diaspora, activities
implemented by the Ministry by now, already implemented and planned
programs. The editors of the newspapers were especially interested in
programs relating to the youth. During the press conference having
lasted for more than 2 hours, the RA Minister of Diaspora answered
the questions Diasporan Armenian journalists were interested in and
called them to active cooperation with structural subdivisions of the
Ministry which, in the Minister’s words, provide necessary information
concerning all the programs being worked out and implemented at the
Ministry, through the website of the RA Ministry of Diaspora and the
Hayern Aysor (Armenians Today) electronic newspaper.
Then, Hranush Hakobian visited the Surb Hakob Church, Armenian-American
Museum and Library, had a meeting with the Armenian Heritage Foundation
Board members, who presented the Minister the model of the Genocide
monument to be built in Boston and the process of preparatory work
for the construction.
A reception was organized in honor of RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush
Hakobian. Representatives of 32 organizations of the Armenian community
in Boston participated in the reception. Those present were especially
inspired by Hranush Hakobian’s sound speech about present wide
possibilities for development of the Armenia-Diaspora cooperation, the
necessity of the Armenians worldwide consolidating around the Homeland,
about importance of Diasporan national, educational-cultural and
sports structures, Diasporan Armenian individuals’ assistance showen
to all-Armenians’ Homeland Armenia, interested approaches concerning
most important problem of keeping the Armenian spirit in Diaspora,
about sending from Armenia text-books for Armenian schools of Diaspora,
about already starting Come Home program aimed at keeping the Armenian
spirit and various programs implemented by the RA Ministry of Diaspora.
The Minister said in her speech that Armenia has 7 million ambassadors
worldwide each of whom must support strengthening of the Homeland.
The RA Minister of Diaspora also visited Boston Independent Radio
and answered correspondents’ questions during a live broadcast.
The RA Minister of Diaspora also visited the Armenian Relief Society
within the framework of rather an eventful program and had a meeting
with Board members.
According to the information provided by the RA Ministry of Diaspora,
Mrs. Hakobian left Boston for Philadelphia on the next day and had a
number of meetings with representatives of local Armenian communal
structures, as well as with Eastern America leader of the Armenian
Ramkavar-Azatakan Party Babken Mkrian.
