YEREVAN
YEREVAN, JULY 9, NOYAN TAPAN. RA Special Envoy, former Nagorno Karabakh
Republic President Arkady Ghukasian at the request of the RIA-NOVOSTI
news agency commented upon Azeri President Ilham Aliyev’s statement,
according to which Azerbaijan does not see a possibility of Nagorno
Karabakh’s existence beyond its boundaries and the issue of its status
is not discussed today. A.
Ghukasian, in particular, said:
"Aliyev junior inheriting Azerbaijan pretends not to see, to remember
and to hear many things.
He does not see the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, from the height of his
potentially irreplaceable dictatorial power he especially does not nee
the democratic development in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, does not
see the Nagorno Karabakh Republic territories seized by Azerbaijan,
does not see hundreds of thousands of refugees from Azerbaijan and
some NKR regions, where his ancestors managed to carry out ethnic
cleansings.
Aliyev does not remember that the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was
established completely in line with all norms of the international
law. He does not remember the massacres of Armenians committed about
the whole territory of Azerbaijan (Sumgayit, Kirovabad, Shamkhor,
Baku). He does not remember that with involvement of international
terrorist structures Azerbaijan broke out a large-scale military
aggression against the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, as a result of which
both sides had huge human and material losses. He does not remember
what an inglorious outcome that force adventure had for Azerbaijan and
with whom it finally had to sign an agreement on ceasefire in 1994 May.
Aliyev does not hear the appeals of the international community for
stopping the bellicose rhetoric, withdrawing the snipers from the
contact zone, and stopping the hostile propaganda. He only listens
to himself, but tries to speak from point of view of the interests
of mediators, Armenia, and what is the most cynical, of the Nagorno
Karabakh people.
Even when speaking about peace, Aliyev threatens by a war. Azerbaijan
has already broken out a war once. And it would be logical if today’s
excessively bellicose Aliyev asked his yesterday’s "ego" where he hid
himself in the years when persons of his age were sent to the front
as a cannon-fodder.
Azeri leaders’ statements confirm their being unready for compromises.
Living in the world of illusions, Aliyev, in essence, hinders the
negotiations process."
