Signs agreement with Govt of India, to set up the India-Armenia Center
of Excellence in Yerevan
NEW DELHI, INDIA: Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC),
today announced that it has signed an agreement with Divyabh Manchanda,
Additional Secretary (Eurasia), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA),
Government of India and Rajan T Joseph, Director General, for setting
up of India-Armenia Center of Excellence in IT (IACoEICT) in Yerevan.
The IACoEICT to be created by C-DAC with assistance from the Government
of India includes the deployment of the indigenously developed PARAM
Supercomputer of C-DAC in the High Performance Computing Center
and the training of nearly 1000 IT professionals per year, said a
press release.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Ministry of External Affairs,
Government of India has identified C-DAC as an implementing agency for
the CoE and the establishment of HPC Centre with PARAM Supercomputer
for collaborative research in the areas of Computational Fluid
Dynamics, Bioinformatics, Weather Forecasting and Evolutionary
Computing by Scientists, Researchers and Academic users.
"This center is proposed to be a major facility for the development
of human resources in IT not only in Armenia but also in the entire
Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region. IACoEICT will offer
fundamental and advanced IT courses of C-DAC to the students of
Armenia," said Divyabh Manchanda, while addressing the media.
A training programme for six months will be imparted to the trainers
and faculty identified by Government of Armenia in India at C-DAC’s
training facility in Pune.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajan T Joseph said the center shall serve
as a core building block and a catalyst to enable widespread reach
of high quality research and education in Armenia.
"The establishment of this center of excellence will help Armenia in
taking advantage of the developments in the field of IT, right from
the grassroots level to the highly complex arena of High Performance
Computing (HPC)," he said.
He further added that the establishment of IACoEICT will help
Government of Armenia to deliver IT education and to enable access
to HPC and related areas to the scientific community. Exchange of
experts and trainings will help upgrade skills and facilitate the
creation of a huge pool of talent in the field of IT and HPC.
