YEREVAN, JULY 23, ARMENPRESS: "The situation in the region requires
that we have a powerful and efficient army ensuring our people’s
security", stated the NKR Minister of Defense, General-Lieutenant
Movses Hakobian, today in Stepanakert.

"Since its creation, the NKR Defense Army has fulfilled a mission
on ensuring the NKR people’s security. Improving from year to year,
it always tries to keep the situation on the front line under its
control, not allowing the enemy to commit any encroachment on the NKR
people. Unlike other states with similar conflicts, no peacemaking
forces are available on the Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed
forces’ contact-line. The security and peace are maintained thanks
to the NKR Defense Army", noted the NKR Minister of Defense.

Speaking of Azerbaijan’s statements on its intention to resolve the
Karabakh issue by force, the Minister underscored that if Azerbaijan’s
armed forces had once been convinced of their ability to resolve
the issue by force, they would have immediately started military
activities.

Generally, Movses Hakobian called the situation on the contact-line
complicated. According to him, no considerable changes have recently
taken place. Corresponding measures on improving the NKR Defense

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
