Armenian opposition to table concept on Karabakh conflict settlement
Yerevan, 24 July: Refreshed "Madrid principles" are unacceptable for
both Yerevan and Stepanakert [Xankandi], Armenian former foreign
minister and representative of the opposition Armenian National
Congress (ANC), Aleksandr Arzumanyan, said in Yerevan today.
"By depriving it of legitimacy, the Armenian authorities have been
faced with pressure and concessions which are not in tandem with the
national interests of the country," Arzumanyan said.
He said that by describing the "Madrid document" as the achievement of
Armenian diplomacy, "Yerevan took a dangerous step" and "only Armenian
President Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation may salvage the situation".
"The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs are mainly guided by the national
interests of their own countries in their proposals, and Karabakh
conflict is only a small change," Arzumanyan added.
Arzumanyan said that the ANC continues to discuss ways of the Karabakh
conflict settlement and the opposition will offer its own concept.
