/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The issue of renewed hostilities in the territories
of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains topical, Academician
Ara Sargsyan , member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of
Geopolitical Problems, told journalists today in Yerevan.
"At present, there are two possible scenarios of the Karabakh
conflict resolution. The first scenario is conditioned by the
Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation, while the second one is linked to
the Azerbaijani-UK ties," the academician stressed.
According to Mr. Sargsyan, under the first scenario, all actions are
dictated by the interests of the Russian Gazprom company related to
the Nabucco project. Ara Sargsyan believes, that the agreement on
this scenario has been achieved in the tripartite meeting of Dmitry
Medvedev – Shimon Peres – Ilham Aliyev, recently held in Baku.
"That meeting resulted in the following: getting support of certain
Russian circles, including the General Staff of Russia, to resume
hostilities in Nagorno Karabakh," Ara Sargsyan said. He justified his
view by Russia’s desire to undermine the implementation of Nabucco
and to prevent Azerbaijan gas from participation in this project.
According to Mr.Sargsyan, all beneficial to Gazprom is not necessarily
to benefit of the Russian people. " The possibility of resumption
of the war in Nagorno Karabakh is 90 per cent until Russia does not
clearly adopt it foreign policy doctrine ," he said.
The second the Azerbaijan-UK scenario, according to the academician,
is conditioned by the interests of British Petroleum, oil and gas
giant. "It was not a coincidence that on the date of signing the
agreement on Nabucco in Ankara, the President of Azerbaijan was
in London, where he made a statement about possibility of resuming
the war, "Ara Sargsyan said. He also added that if under the first
scenario the war is inevitable, in the second case we are dealing
with blackmail.
The Madrid principles are favorable for Armenia, Ara Sargsyan
stressed. "In the coming years in the South Caucasus and the Middle
East certain processes resulting in change of state borders will take
place, the existing status quos will be violated and new ethnic states
will be created, " Ara Sargsyan said.
