A workshop was conducted yesterday in Yerevan within the frameworks
of "Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument"
(TAIEX) program during which the essence of the Generalized system
of preferences (GSP/GSP+), its privileges and processes of applying
it were presented, Armenpress reported. Representatives from the
Armenian state governance bodies, small and medium-sized enterprises,
international organizations took part in the event. The deputy
economy minister Vahe Daniyelyan said that this system supposes
competitive privilege for Armenia over other countries which seek
to sell their products in Europe. According to him, the goal of the
conduction of the workshop is to present to the business community
of Armenia the opportunities provided by this system, which is very
important in conditions of the crisis. Armenia is making use of the
system from January 1, 2009. In December 2008 the European Commission
approved the list of countries which will have an opportunity to
get use of the GSP+ trade regime from 2009 January 1 till the end of
2011. The countries which have an opportunity to get use of the GSP+
are Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Columbia, Costa Rica,
Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru,
Sri Lanka, and Venezuela. The GSP+ trade regime gives an opportunity
to the countries export 6400 products to EU market duty free.
