Hayk Alumyan, attorney for the Teghut defense group, told "Hetq" that
since the administrative court had refused to hear their petition he
would be taking the matter to the Court of Cassation tomorrow. The
group had sought that the court issue a work stoppage at the Teghut
forest mining site. The court had rejected the claim arguing that
the group wasn’t competent to argue the matter
"If the Court of Cassation issues a similar decision we will take
the case to the European Economic Committee, a body which reviews
such cases. Armenia is a member nation and is obligated to accept
its rulings," attorney Alumyan stated.
The Teghut group argues that the mining operation violates the
international Arhaus Convention, to which Armenia is a signatory. Let
us remind readers that the European Economic Committee adopted a
finding that Armenia was violating the Convention regarding the Dalma
Gardens. "Our government, however, hasn’t done anything to remove
those violations," Mr. Alumyan said.
