The scales in all shops must be checked once a year, which, however,
is not done in Armenia, Chairman of the Association of Consumers Armen
Poghosian said at the August 6 press conference. Besides, according
to him, there must be weight checkers in each shop. A fine of only
50-100 thousand drams (about 135-270 USD) is imposed in this case.

A. Poghosian noted that RA Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsian
has been informed about the problem and steps to be taken for its
solution. It was decided to conduct checks in shops in Armenia until
late August.

"We aim to raise the awareness and diginity of consumers. They
should know their rights so as to be protected and not be cheated,"
he underlined.
