On August 7, answering reporters and students’ questions, the
Minsk group American co-chair Mathew Bryza made several important
statements. In particular, in answer to the question, which is the
reason why the U.S. recognized the Kosovo independence and not that of
Nagorno-Karabakh, Bryza stated that they are different issues. Serbia
assaulted Kosovo that is why the UN Security Council had to recognize
the Kosovo independence. Kosovo conquered its independence through
struggle.

Bryza seems not to know that just like Serbia, Azerbaijan assaulted
Karabakh too, and the Karabakhi people conquered their independence
through struggle. However, in one case, it is recognized, in the
other case it is not. At the same time, Bryza dwelt on a referendum,
saying that after the return of the Azerbaijani refugees, there
should be held a referendum in accordance with the latest USSR census,
according to which 65 percent of the Karabakhi population is Armenian,
the 22 Azeri. He stated that 10 years ago, the Armenian position was
stronger than now and Armenia cannot force any solution to Azerbaijan.

At first instance, Bryza’s thoughts may seem absurd, especially
the Armenian social-political thought, which has particular ideas,
may complain from the "unjust world", the "double standards",
etc. Bryza’s thoughts must create serious grounds to think if the
Armenian leadership has wish and ability to think.

The point is that Bryza’s word is the key, which leads to the
pro-Armenian settlement, which we have in our mind. When he dwells on
the independence conquered through struggle and about a period of 10
years ago, he means that 10 years ago, Nagorno-Karabakh was showing
signs of independence, it was a side of the negotiations and was
leading more or less foreign policy. When Karabakh ceded its rights
to Armenia, it showed that it does not need independence.

Under such conditions, the world cannot recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh
independence. As to Kosovo, it did not have any power to depend on,
fortunately for it, which was ready to cede anything, it did not have
offices of Hay Dat and lobbying.

Though sorrowful it is for us, the world is too just and true.

Otherwise, it would stop existing.
