YEREVAN, AUGUST 13, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian Economy Ministry’s agency
of mental property received 2,234 applications for registration of
brands from foreign companies during the seven months of this year.
Director of the agency Armen Azizyan told Armenpress that registration
of brands has only one aim – elaboration of business: Armenia
is becoming more interesting for foreign businessmen. The agency
also received 592 applications of registering brands from local
companies. The registration of brand protects the product. The agency
also receives applications for registering names of firms. Currently
there are more than 50,000 registered names of firms.
All the registered brands, names of firms are placed in
web site which is a guide for businessmen to clarify
whether there is such a name they want to choose or not. The web site
also presents the inventions registered in Armenia.
In January-July the agency received 99 applications for
registration of inventions and innovations. Five of the inventors
are foreigners. Azizyan said the inventions mainly refer to the
spheres of chemistry, physics, biology, medicine, energy, mechanics,
construction. The director of the agency said that the presented
applications must be new, must have necessary inventiveness degree,
be applicable in industry. Azizyan noted that some applications may be
rejected in case they do not meet each of these demands. For instance,
applications for eternal engines are being presented but they are
rejected for not being applicable in industry.
Azizyan noted that after Armenia’s membership to World Organization
of Mental Property, annually 3-4 invention applications are being
presented for registering them abroad.
Currently 800 inventions are being applied in Armenia.
