Yesterday, Georgian authorities prevented Stepan Voskanyan, lawyer of
jailed Javakhk-Armenian activist and leader of the "United Javakhk
Alliance" Vahagn Chakhalyan, from seeing his client at the Rustavi
#2 prison.

Mr. Voskanyan was told by Georgian authorities that his attorney’s
license had expired but the lawyer argues that his license has no
such expiration.

In a telephone call to "Hetq", Mr. Voskanyan stated that jail
authorities had told him that they would no longer follow the
directives of Georgia’s Ministry of Justice. "I responded that I have
entered the Gldan detention facility with my papers and have been
recognized as the attorney for Vahagn Chakhalyan. I have permission
to serve as his attorney and such permission has no expiration."

The attorney said that he had also petitioned the Georgian human
rights ombudsman but that they could offer no assistance.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
