Palandjian: AYF Olympics Opening Ceremonies To Honor Former Organiza

PALANDJIAN: AYF OLYMPICS OPENING CEREMONIES TO HONOR FORMER ORGANIZATION LEADERSHIP

The Providence AYF Olympics Steering Committee invites you to
the Opening Ceremonies for the 76th Annual Olympic Games of the
AYF-YOARF on Sun., Sept. 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Cranston High School West
in Cranston, R.I. The program will honor past members of the AYF
Central Executive from the 1940’s and 1950’s, and past and present
Olympic Governing Body members, and will feature the traditional
parade of athletes.

"We have a strong, spirited history of the AYF in Providence,
especially the Olympic tradition," said Harry Kushigian, the Alumni
chair of the Opening Ceremonies Committee. "As this year’s hosts,
the Opening Ceremonies has special meaning. It will bring together
members of the Armenian community of all ages to honor some of our
past AYF leaders and those currently at the helm of these Olympic
Games. We plan on ‘Taking Tradition to Hyer Ground.’"

The program will also feature Rhode Island leaders including Mayor
Scott Avedisian of Warwick (Rhode Island’s second largest city)
and Mayor Allan Fung of Cranston. Also invited are Governor Donald
Carcieri and Mayor David Cicilline of Providence. Other dignitaries
include His Grace Bishop Anoushavan Tanielian, Vicar General of the
Eastern Prelacy, as well as representatives from the Central Committee
of the ARF, ARS, Homenetmen, and AYF Central Executive.

Join us for this memorable ceremony and show your support for our AYF
athletes! See you promptly at 11:30 a.m. at Cranston High School West
to bring back old memories and create new ones.

For directions to Cranston High School West from 95 North/South: Take
exit 14B/ 37 West; follow 37 West about 2 miles until it comes to an
end; turn right onto Phenix Avenue; travel about 1.4 miles on Phenix
Avenue; and pass the first traffic light to Cranston High School West
on the right.
