Armenian politician Alexander Iskandaryan says Turkey tends to delay
the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations which is evident in
the recent protocol. The Armenian side will hastily adopt and sign
the document.
On the other hand, Turkey doesn’t want Armenia to meet all obligations
and raise its image in the eyes of the international community. Turkey
will therefore delay the process not to shape a negative image. "I
don’t think the process will be halted though I don’t rule it
out. Let’s live and see. Everything will be known in mid-October,"
Mr. Iskandaryan told a press conference on September 2.
"Turkey is influenced by America, Europe as well as home political
forces and Foreign Ministry. Russia also welcomed normalization of
bilateral relations. I don’t remember these three countries expressing
a unanimous opinion over a former Soviet state," said the politician.
With regard to the disputed protocol between Armenia and Turkey,
Mr. Iskandaryan said: "The document found a deep resonance in
Armenia. Everyone says the document suggests the worst for Armenia-
everything is ceded and sold. This is characteristic of our people. The
most interesting is that Turks are cleverer, shrewder and more
experienced and can easily trick us," added Mr. Iskandaryan.
