TURKEY TO REOPEN BORDER WITH ARMENIA

Turkey said yesterday it hoped to open its border with longtime
foe Armenia by the year’s end. The two countries, which have no
diplomatic ties and a history of animosity stemming from the mass
killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks during the First World War,
announced plans to end a century of hostility. Reopening the border
would increase Turkey’s influence in the region, while Armenia would
have access to Turkish and European markets.
