Boxing: Irish flyweight Declan Geraghty and middleweight Darren O’Neill
bowed out of the AIBA World Championships in Milan this evening.
Geraghty was denied a place in the quarter-finals after a 17-7 to
Mongolian Tugstogt Nyambayar.
The 19-year-old was hoping to follow Ken Egan into the last eight
and began well by going 3-2 up at the end of the first round.
He opened the gap to two early in the second but his opponent forced
a standing eight count and shot into a five point lead before racking
up the points in the third and final round.
O’Neill was beaten 7-3 reversal by Armenian Andranik Hakobyan.
The Kilkenny man was always behind and was picked off as he chased
the a 4-2 deficit in the third round.
