In 2009, Armenian Water and Sewerage CJSC received a 26 million
USD loan from the World Bank, a 46 million USD loan from the Asian
Development Bank, and a 20 million USD loan from the European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development, stated Armenian Water and Sewerage
Director-General Patrick Laurin today. Besides the funds mentioned,
the company also receives funds from the Government of Armenia.

According to Patrick Laurin, a project involving the Asian Development
Bank’s loan is already underway. The project foresees an improvement
in the water supply system in 18 cities by 2010.

With funds from the World Bank, the company has to buy
equipment. Besides, the conditions of the loan include installing a
new water supply system in Hrazdan.

Laurin added that that is the second phase of the World Bank
project. In the first phase, which began in 2004, 25 million USD was
allocated to improving the water supply system in 12 Armenian cities.

The funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
will be directed to clearing of wastewater, construction of pump
stations and system reconstruction in the Armenian towns of Sevan,
Jermuk and Vardenis. These projects are planned for 2009-2011.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
