Formally adopted during the EU Summit in Prague last May, the
Eastern Partnership is a new framework for bilateral and multilateral
cooperation between the European Union and its Eastern neighbors. It
aims at developing increasingly close political and economic ties
with the Eastern neighbours, involving both the authorities and the
civil society. The "Road-show" on the Eastern Partnership, which
will be held in Yerevan on September 15-16 2009 – aims at involving
key Armenian stakeholders and the wider public in an open discussion
about the key purposes and principles of the Eastern Partnership and
the benefits it offers.

Mr. Henrik Hololei (Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Kallas),
Mr. Rutger Wissels (DG RELEX Director for European Neighborhood Policy
Coordination) and Mr. John Kjaer (DG RELEX Head of Unit for Ukraine
Moldova Belarus and South Caucasus) have visited Armenia to explain
the Eastern Partnership and discuss with relevant stakeholders the
benefits of this important initiative, which represents an upgrading
of the political engagement between the European Union and Armenia.

The three EU high-level officials will participate in the high level
workshop Political and Economic Impact of Economic Integration with
European Union – Opportunities and Challenges for Armenia. Mr John
Kjaer will give a presentation about "Prospects and impact of de
epening EU-Armenian bilateral relations under Eastern Partnership"
and Mr.

Henrik Hololei will speak about "Gains and obstacles of economic
integration with European Union – challenges for economies in
transition".

The delegation will be received by the Minister of Economy Mr. Nerses
Yeritsyan and Deputy Foreign Minister Karine Kazinyan. The delegation
will also have discussions with the Members of the National Assembly,
civil society organizations and political parties.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
