ArmInfo. Armenian CJSC GNC Alfa will complete the work on laying
fiber-optic cable from Armenia to Georgia within 18 months, Gurgen
Sargsyan, Transport and Communication Minister of Armenia, told
government on Thursday.

One more fiber-optic cable from Georgia will stiffen competition in
the telecommunication sector, improve the quality of services and
reduce tariffs. G. Sargsyan said that 18 months is the maximum term
for completing the work and putting the cable into exploitation. The
cable will be laid along the Armenian-Georgian highways. The government
charged the local administration to support the company.

There are already three fiber-optic cables from Georgia to Armenia. Two
of these cables belong to ArmenTel (subsidiary of Vimpelcom) and one
to Fibernet. The fourth cable will be connected to Caucasus Online
compay’s mainline, which is laid across the bottom of the Black Sea
from Poti to Bulgaria. Till the end of 2009 CJSC GNC Alfa will put
into commercial exploitation another 2480 megabits fiber-optic cable
from Iran. The cable will be laid from the Iranian border to Yerevan,
its main part is to be laid along Iran-Armenia gas pipeline.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
