YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 17, NOYAN TAPAN. At the September 17 sitting,
the Armenian government approved the draft decision on laying fiber
optic cables in the areas adjacent to a number of motorways. In the
words of Minister of Transport and Communication Gurgen Sargsyan,
the decision is conditioned by the necessity to ensure additional
Internet connection in the territory of Armenia.

The decision will allow GNC Alpha CJSC to lay a new fiber optic cable
along Armenia-Georgia Highway to the country so as to meet the current
and future demand for Internet connection. This measure will improve
the competition environment in the sector, which will contribute to a
reduction in tariffs of Internet services and have a positive effect
on the quality of services.
