Yerevan, 17 September: The opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC)
possesses information, according to which Armenian-Turkish protocols
will be signed on 13 October, after which they will be submitted to
ratification by the parliaments of the two countries.
Mediamax reports that ANC representative David Shahnazaryan stated
today that the given information is received from "trustworthy
sources".
"Before the ratification of the protocols, I intend to make a proposal
to the Armenian authorities they will hardly turn down," Shahnazaryan
stated, refusing to reveal the details of the proposal.
He noted that Armenian parliament should ratify the protocols with
the reservation that the documents will come into effect only after
ratification in both countries. "Such an approach will allow avoiding
possible speculations from the Turkish side, in particular, related
to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict," the ANC representative
stated.
David Shahnazaryan expressed an opinion that the initialling of
protocols became a certain shift in Armenian-Turkish relations. At
that, he described as "unacceptable" the item on forming a subcommittee
of historians within the intergovernmental Armenian-Turkish committee.
