PRESS RELEASE

*A Portal to the (Online) Armenian World: New York ARF Launches Innovative
Web Site*

WOODSIDE, NY – The New York Armen Garo Gomdieh recently announced the launch
of a new web site, hyecenter.com, based out of the Armenian Center located
in Woodside, NY. As a preview event, the web site committee held a workshop
on September 18 introducing the site and its features.

New York Gomideh chairperson U. Valod Atakhanian opened the program with
welcoming remarks. He described the purpose of the web site and the
enthusiasm for the committee to take on the project. This site is more than
just the online presence of the Armenian Center, he said, this new site will
also house videos, articles, links and serve as a portal for the community
at large.

Next, web site committee member unger Razmig Haroun gave an overview of the
philosophy behind the site and its purpose. `This portal allows us to
transcend the physical barriers of this community center and engage, not
only the Armenian community of Queens, but the community of New York,’ he
said. He went on to emphasize the fact that with this new web site, the
center adopts the most current and effective methods of organizational
communication while encouraging visitors to register in order to personally
and actively take part in community life.

Committee member ungerouhi Sossi Essajanian then presented the site’s
functionality and capabilities. She went through section and tab, showing
how visitors can view articles, a calendar of events, various publications
and newsletters. Her presentation illustrated the site’s dynamic features
through its different tools that allow users to add content, rate, and
comment. Essajanian asked attendees to think of the site as a virtual place
that functions like the Armenian Center. `This site is a place of meeting,
somewhere to exchange ideas and grow, just as our Armenian Center is within
these four walls. But this site will take us outside those walls only if
people register and join in the building,’ she said.

Web site committee chairperson unger Mardig Tcholakian briefed the audience
on history of the site’s construction and invited all to bring the site to
the next level by fully utilizing its existing features and creating
additional needs and requirements to support the diverse aspects of the
community. Further he showed the site’s versatility by using real examples
of how an organization can effectively utilize the site, allowing it to
reach more organized and presentable results. Later Tcholakian shed light on
few upcoming projects that the site would host that will cover areas of
interest to the community at large. `We hope to broaden the Center’s reach
through the Internet to a wider audience and we need your help in using,
promoting and extending its capabilities to serve more individuals and
diversify its users,’ concluded Tcholakian.

Following the presentations, attendees were invited to ask questions and
provide feedback. Many were encouraged by the diversity of tools available
to registered users to post and promote events and dialogue with fellow
community members. All attendees were then invited to a light reception and
encouraged to visit to learn more about the site.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
