Gagik Melikian: "We shall not lose"

Former Coalition partners Republican Gagik Melikian and
ARF-Dashnaktsutiun MP Artsvik Minasian today debated over the
Armenian-Turkish Protocols.

"Surely, the Protocols do not convey preconditions, they convey
conditions," ARF MP Artsvik Minasian replied to Gagik Melikian who
states the Protocols set no preconditions.

Arsvik Minasian thinks that the pre-signed Protocols pave a way for
Turkey to intervene with the Karabakh conflict settlement. Melikian
disagreed with his opponent saying Turkey has interfered in the issue
since 1993 through different countries and different methods.

The ARF-Dashnaktsutiun MP noted that the Protocols conflicts with the
RA Constitution which says the Republic of Armenia supports the
Genocide recognition worldwide. Gagik Melikian shared his opponent’s
concerns saying: "The process is really complicated, we still have
much to do, don’t we?"

Will the Republican Party admit its defeat and will Serzh Sargsyan
tender his resignation if the adopted Protocols empower Turkey to
engage in the Karabakh conflict resolution?

In reply to A1+, Mr. Melikian said: "I don’t think that the
ratification of the Protocols will lead to Armenia’s defeat. After the
Protocols are signed both sides will put forth their preconditions,
which is inadmissible for us. We shall not lose."

"The ARF should also assume responsibility for the Protocols,"
announced Republican Gagik Melikian.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
