EXHIBITIONS

Today is the last day to see "Octet," a selection of 110 works of
art by 66 students, lecturers and alumni of the New York School of
Visual Arts, at the Pera Museum in Istanbul’s Beyoglu district.

Works by Turkish conceptual artist Serkan Ozkaya and Romanian artists
Dumitru Gorzo and Mircea Suciu are being shown at "Without Hintersinn,"
a group exhibition on view until Oct. 12 at the Bilsar Building in
Istanbul’s Beyoglu district.

Istanbul’s Sabancı University art gallery hosts an installation
titled "Yapıların Ayak Ä°zleri — Istanbul" (Building Footprints —
Istanbul) by Osvaldo Romberg until Oct. 24.

A selection of portraits from "One Shot Ä°stanbul" by photo artist
Alexander Berg is on view at the Taksim metro station until Oct. 25.

Ä°stanbul’s Sakıp Sabancı Museum in Ä°stanbul’s Emirgan neighborhood
is home to an exhibition titled "Joseph Beuys and His Students: Works
from the Deutsche Bank Collection" until Nov. 1. The museum is closed
on Mondays.

The 11th International Ä°stanbul Biennial runs through Nov. 8,
offering works of art by around 70 artists at the old customs
warehouse, Antrepo No. 3, in Karaköy, the old tobacco warehouse in
Tophane and the Feriköy Greek School in Å~^iÅ~_li. Tickets can be

US-based Romanian artist Serge Spitzer’s "Molecular Ä°stanbul"
installation is on view at the Mayor Synagogue in Ä°stanbul’s Hasköy
district on the Golden Horn through Nov. 11.

"Site," an exhibition of installations by Turkish-born Armenian
conceptual artist Sarkis Zabunyan, runs through Jan. 10, 2010 at
Ä°stanbul Modern. The museum’s movie theater also offers a selection
of films that influenced the artist’s career.

Paris-based Turkish artist Yuksel Arslan’s retrospective is on view
at SantralÄ°stanbul contemporary art center until March, offering
more than 500 works by the artist.

FILM SCREENINGS

Bogazici University’s Mithat Alam Film Center (MAFM) w ward-winning
films by young-generation Turkish filmmakers in a program that runs

A selection of 22 films by German directors is offered in a weekly
film program that runs through December at the Goethe Institute in
Ä°stanbul. Admission is free of charge. Showings take place each
Friday at 7 p.m.

The Ankara Cinematheque Society screens arthouse and classic films
in admission-free showings every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. as part of
its weekly program that runs throughout the year at the society’s
headquarters, located on Buklum Sokak, No: 16 in the Kavaklıdere
quarter.

FESTIVALS

Austri an pianist Alfred Brendel will open this autumn’s weekly
classical concert series at Ä°stanbul’s Bogazici University with
a conference-recital on Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Albert Long

The five-day Balkans Folk Dance Festival runs through Oct. 7 on
various squares of Ä°zmir, featuring shows by folkdance companies
from 10 countries.

The fifth edition of Visibility Project, a contemporary art and
performance art event held annually in the Galata neighborhood of
Ä°stanbul, will take place Oct. 10, featuring performances on the
streets, four alternative stages and the Okcu Musa Primary School in

Turkish rockers Ozge FıÅ~_kın, Friendly Fire, TNK and Kurban will
perform at the TanıÅ~_arock 2009 Festival, scheduled for Oct. 11 at
