A session on preparations of Armenian-French consultations with
participation of Yerevan’s Mayor Gagik Beglaryan and more than 25
French cities’ heads was held in Paris yesterday.
According to press office of Yerevan’s Municipality, the consultations
planned for September 2010 and are aimed at development of La
Francophonie institutions in Armenia as well as determination of
local government’s role in bilateral cooperation.
In his speech Mr. Beglaryan has high praised local Armenian and
French governments’ activities. He pointed that French organizations’
activities were sponsored by Armenian communities and expressed a hope
that those would promote decentralized Armenian-French cooperation.
Yerevan’s Mayor stressed that Armenia’s authorities were highly
interested in development of La Francophonie in Armenia and relations
between Armenia and French-speaking countries.
Note that Gagik Beglatyan has participated in Opening Ceremony of the
30th General Assembly of International Association of Francophone
Mayors (AIFM). A year ago Armenia became a member of International
Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).
According to Mr. Beglaryan Armenia is very close to Francophonie’s
values, in particular, to principle of cultural and linguistic
variability. Armenia is ready to sign an agreement between Armenian
Government and Francophone University Agency, which goal is to create
a digital center of database, now located at Yerevan Linguistic
University aft. Bryusov.
