Almost all preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying
second-leg match between Turkey and Armenia scheduled for Oct. 14
are in their final phase.

The necessary security measures have been taken to prevent incidents
that could possibly errupt during the match. Unfurling anything other
than national flags or banners won’t be allowed in the stadium. Any
incidents of hooliganism will not be tolerated and offenders will be
removed from the stadium, reports Turkish daily Today’s Zaman.

Meanwhile, the head of the Bursa branch of the Turkish Public Workers’
Labor Union (Kamu-Sen), Selcuk Turkoglu, said they have started a
campaign to express Bursa’s citizens concern over the arrival of
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in Bursa. "We are not against the
Turkey-Armenia match. Sport is a stage for friendly competition even
for countries experiencing uneasy relations. We want this match to
create friendship among our nations. Our concerns are not with the
Armenian national team, either. We just do not want to host Armenian
President Sargsyan," Turkoglu told Today’s Zaman.

Bursa Kamu-Sen started a campaign last week collecting 50,000
signatures in two-and-a-half days to protest against Sargsyan’s
visit to Bursa for the football match. "This is a civil initiative,
this is the protest of Bursa citizens," he stated.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
