ArmInfo. We need decisions clear to today’s world and at the same time
acceptable to Armenians, said President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan
during the supper given in his honor in Beirut on Tuesday. The
president is in Beirut as part of his Pan Armenian-Tour initiated in
connection with the Armenian-Turkish process.

Serzh Sargsyan said Armenia has faced many economic, political and
other tasks. Nevertheless, the country has not been in more favorable
development conditions over the last one hundred years. The president
mentioned that the country declared independence when one-third of the
country was ruined by the earthquake of 1988 and the country received
hundreds of thousands of refugees from Azerbaijan and was on the verge
of the vicious and wearisome war: "But we trusted in ourselves and in
you. We trusted in the Armenian phenomenon and passed that testing by
combined efforts." The president said he had initiated the tour to
get first hand view of the concerns of Diaspora representatives and
to listen to them. "This will actually help my work. But I am here to
urge you to trust in Armenia. To believe and to trust does not mean
to do nothing or to wait for instructions. This is impossible in our
case. To believe and to trust in Armenia means to actively respond
to the initiatives of Yerevan and simultaneously demand Armenia
what it is ought to do for its sons deprived of their fatherland,"
the president said. The president recalled that Armenia and Armenians
have many friends in the world as well as hostilely treating forces,
which dream of sowing distrust and misunderstanding between different
parts of the Armenian nation, to separate not only communities but
also Armenia and Artsakh, Armenia and Diaspora. And these forces are
not only dreaming but also acting actively. ‘They know what is our
strongest weapon – the force of unity which can move mountains’, –
the president said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
