Turkey may quit the idea of entering the European Union, Turkey’s
President Abdullah Gul announced in France when answering a Le Figaro
reporter whether Turkey is implementing reforms to meet EU standards.
"Turkey is likely to follow Norway’s example and give up the idea of
EU membership," said the Turkish president.
Remind that though Norway met EU standards it refused membership
after the country’s population voted against the decision.
Turkey’s President confirmed that a historians’ commission will be
set up to study the 1915 events in the Ottaman Turkey.
"The commission may involve historians from other countries as well. We
are ready to admit the facts presented by the commission," announced
Abdullah Gul adding that not only Armenians but also Turks suffered
from the disputed events.
Swedish officials are working
The date and venue of Protocols’ signing are still unknown for some
technical reasons, report Turkish sources. Swedish officials are
still working in this direction.
