On October 8, Tigran Arakelyan, a young activist of the Armenian
opposition, accused of applying violence to policeman, was released
from custody under recognizance not to leave.
On the eve, on October 7, the State Office of Public Prosecutor
of Armenia discussed at its session the course of preliminary
investigation on the criminal case of Tigran Arakelyan, a member of
the Armenian National Congress.
According to Sona Truzyan, press secretary of the General Public
Prosecutor, the main investigatory actions on the case are over, and
Tigran Arakelyan’s stay at large will not interfere with inspectors’
further work.
Another reason for releasing Arakelyan is his poor health condition. In
particular, the investigatory bodies possess conclusion of A. Malayan,
Chief Oculist of the Ministry of Public Health of Armenia, according
to which Arakelyan suffers from starting subatrophy of his eye nerve.
